A “Heart”y Dinner

January 5, 2009

At around 3:30 I wanted a snack and decided on carrots, 1/2 of a Pink Lady Apple and the rest of my mini Tribe hummus cup from the other day. I also wanted to try out some Almond Butter because I have been reading on the blogs about it… and now I know why!

For dinner, my mom made this HEART shaped pasta that I have been seeing in our local grocery store and have always wanted to try. She made her homemade pasta sauce which is really just a marinara with chunky vegetables (mushrooms, zucchini, squash, onions, etc.) and she added ground turkey and some turkey sausage. We all LOVE this sauce. It’s so good you could almost eat it plain!

We also had salad made with romaine, cucumbers and green peppers with some homemade thousand island dressing. My mom is really quite the chef!

Cute hearts huh?!

I went back for seconds but got mostly sauce and a little pasta.

And I realized… although I love the concept of a big bowl of pasta, I think I really like the sauce and add-ons more than the pasta itself. To me, the pasta itself really doesn’t have that much taste, so I would rather use spaghetti squash as a pasta substitute, but with a really great sauce. I’m glad I realized this tonight as I tried to really focus on the taste of the cute hearts and realized there really isn’t one.

I know this looks odd, and my sister definitely got her fair share of laughs out of it, but I liked this dessert. I just took two sugar free Jello packs, one was cherry and one Black Cherry. I added a Trader Joe’s organic brown rice marshmallow treat, a nice healthy form of a rice krispy treat. These have 100 calories. It surprisingly tasted great together! Some crunch, some smoothness, some sweetness but not too much… very good. And now I think I’m done for the night! Goooooodnight! :)
